Picture a sea of teenage faces in a crowded school hallway. Some kids are trying to blend in; some are being carried along by the crowd; others are deliberately swimming against the tide. All of them are trying to find their way in a culture that is crowded with the noise and glare of media messages and peer expectations.
Young Life seeks to carry the message of Jesus Christ into that tumultuous tide and points teenagers toward life as they were created to live it. Since 1941, the dynamic that has characterized Young Life is its commitment to relationships — Young Life leaders meeting kids on their turf in the interest of friendship. As leaders get to know teenagers, they are able to share the love of Jesus Christ through platforms like Young Life club, Campaigners and trips to camp.
Whether kids are seeking answers or just acceptance, Young Life is there for them, armed with a desire for fun and the ultimate message of hope. Young Life camping involves high adventure, lots of fun, great food and excellent speakers who understand and respect high school and middle school kids. At Young Life’s 21 camps in the United States and Canada, kids are treated to premier facilities for which Young Life has become known. But Young Life camping happens all over the world; in some cases we own or lease camps and in other locations we get creative. Regardless of the facility, the experience is the same — kids getting away from the pressures of everyday life, having fun with friends and their Young Life leaders and hearing the message of God’s love in terms they can understand. And Young Life camping is open to kids who often are overlooked: those from economically depressed communities, kids with disabilities and teenage mothers. Each year, more than 74,000 kids around the world spend a week or a weekend at Young Life camp, having an experience that many describe as the best of their lives.
